Alto Sax???

am currently playing on a alto saxophone finishing up my 3rd year. I have a Amati and i%26#039;m playing on a 31/2 vandoren reed. It%26#039;s not hard playing on it but i get out of breath playing low noted quickly. My mouthpiece is really old and i really could use another one. I%26#039;m not sure what type it is now but it says amati and a #5. When i play a hissing noise like a snake also appears which gets annoying. What type of mouthpiece do you recomend . I want a quality one under 100. And do you recomend i go to a sofer reed? How can i get the hissing noise out? Thanks!
Alto Sax???
Sorry, I have no answer for this becase I%26#039;ve only played alto sax for a year and I%26#039;m having the same problem: hitting the lower notes, like the low C and D.
Alto Sax???
hardness of your reed should be determined by how long you have been playing, what mouthpiece and ligature you have (particularly table %26amp; facing). there are some mouthpieces that demand a softer reed because they are so open.

i strongly suggest that you work on long tones in the low register, make sure your embouchure is solid-not slack!

a C* mouthpiece is an excellent choice, but i strongly advise you to take your instrument to a reputable music store and play it with any new mouthpiece that you are thinking of purchasing.

also; has your current teacher taught you anything about choosing reeds? the vandoren reed boxes used to come with a nice little data sheet explaining the difference between good reeds and mediocre ones.
Reply:Yea that noise is probably because your reed not fully connecting with the mouthpiece. I reccomend getting a 2 1/2 or 3 reed, don%26#039;t rush yourself on moving up on reeds, it%26#039;s better to play on a soft one when you are just beggining and you can actulally get a better tone with the softer ones (if they are better suited to you and easier for you to play). I%26#039;d reccomend a meyer 5 or 6 mouthpiece for jazz and a selmer C* (star) for other music. So, try a softer reed, (i%26#039;d reccomend 2 1/2 since youve only been playin for 3 yrs). If that dosn%26#039;t help bring your sax in for a tune up, there might be a leak.

I'm just starting to play the guitar. Im not sure what size is suitable for me? I'm 14 and 5'4?

Get a Schecter, ESP, Ibanez, PRS, or Jackson that fits. Just go try some one at a local music store.

Well, you obviously don%26#039;t need a large guitar. you need to go into a shop, sit down, take your time and see what seems comfortable to you standing up, sitting down, etc, making sure you feel good reaching for all the frets, being able to move the instrument around, and just in general feel comfortable with the overall feeling of it. Never mind name brands, and all that. You can%26#039;t play if the guitar doesn%26#039;t suit you..

Opinions on what to do in talent show.?

Which is more appealing?

~play Canon in D major by Johan Patchelbel on the piano?

~sing and play %26quot;love song%26quot; by sara something on the piano?

~sing %26quot;breakaway%26quot; by kelly clarkson?

Well? Which would woo you more as an audience?
Opinions on what to do in talent show.?
It%26#039;s Sara Bareilles. And I think, since that song is really awesome and Kelly Clarkson is mildly overdone in talent shows and classical music might not be exactly a %26#039;crowd pleaser%26#039; to try for %26#039;Love Song%26#039; if you really can sing and play piano at the same time. :D

Canon in D major

I always have respect for someone who can play that.

Sing thrash?

How do Thrash Metal singers sing? Is there a certain throat position or exercise? I don%26#039;t want to know death metal and am having trouble finding sources on Thrash singing so any links or recommendations to books, etc would help. I don%26#039;t have a clue on how to sing Thrash, can anyone do it?
Sing thrash?
idk but whenever i listen to metal singers, its like they%26#039;re not even singing at all. they just scream out the words and say the lyrics very loudly with a touch of rock growls. idk
Sing thrash?
Thrash is not a style of singing, it is a genre of music and has more to do with the instruments and lyrics than the way one uses one%26#039;s voice. There is no %26quot;how to sing thrash%26quot; per se, you just use the voice you have, so yes, anyone can do it.

Read more about thrash here:

Reply:Well I%26#039;m A Guitarist who can scream and sing. It takes hard work to scream though most %26quot;Normal People%26quot; (Haha) think its stupid. First you might wanna sing normally with vocal lessons to build strength, and then like I have been suggested, take the Zen Of Screaming DVD Course, It%26#039;s taught by a girl, but for some reason everyone says its really good haha.
Reply:DO NOT SCREAM. It could damage your vocal chords, there is some kind of dvd about punk/death metal singers. The correct way to do it involves using a different part of your throat or something.

Im learning to play the guitar right?

Im learning to play the guitar right?

Im learning to play the guitar right?
You should learn how to read music note%26#039;s tabs don%26#039;t display timing.

But here is how tabs are displayed.

trust me

it make it so so easy i learnt from it and i just started good luck
Reply:TABS is NOT READING MUSIC... TABS is just TABS... At your level, it would take you no more effort to learn how to read REAL MUSIC and the plus is, you can get all the information you miss if all you can do is play TABS.

Do yourself a favor LEARN HOW TO READ MUSIC... for one thing... you can pick up ANY piano score and play it and not have to try to find someone to translate it into TABs for you
Reply:ill show you :)
Reply:i really wish all beginning guitarists and drummers and bassists would all just learn to read actual music instead of tabs. from tabs all you get is which fret or drum or symbol to hit. from music you get all that and you get the duration of the note. anyone can play tabs. it makes playing easy and boring and it doesnt always sound right.

I wanna Play on Electric Guitar, But No Experiance, Do i have to start on normal Guitar?

no, i started on electric, mostly blues, then added on an acoustic style and the rest is history
I wanna Play on Electric Guitar, But No Experiance, Do i have to start on normal Guitar?
naw thats fine. you can start on either.
I wanna Play on Electric Guitar, But No Experiance, Do i have to start on normal Guitar?
its better if you start with an acoustic coz you need to develop calluses. an acoustic guitar%26#039;s strings develops calluses faster than electric guitar%26#039;s but you don%26#039;t really need to start with an acoustic. joan jett started with an electric guitar and she%26#039;s like #98 of rolling stone%26#039;s best guitarist. she%26#039;s like one out of two women in that list.
Reply:No way! Electric guitar are better for everyone. Even You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D
Reply:I suggest that you first get a Acoustic Guitar. If you go for a electric, you will be paying a lot more for a decent brand and quality guitar. Where as if you get a Acoustic, you don%26#039;t pay as much for a decent one and if you decide to give up guitar after a year or so, You won%26#039;t lose too much money.
Reply:Yes you should...start in studying guitar chords then practice it on the acoustic guitar
Reply:nah start on what you want

because if you want to play electric dont waste your money on an ascoutic

ppl only say start on ascoutic bcos its harder to play an on a electric guitar you can sort of fake it sounding good you know?

go for the electric just as long as your not going from electric to ascoutic

good luck

and rock on!
Reply:Theres barely a difference.
Reply:listen buddy....i play guitar so i should know.

the best guitar to start on is an acoustic guitar, and make sure it has nylon strings. ASHTON is a good beginner brand.

and by the way, if your wondering when you can start electric....it depends on your progress...could be 6 months or it could be 1.5 years. ask your teacher if your ready.

remember, acoustic, and nylon strings
Reply:DO WHAT YOU WANT THE MOST. Seriously, when I started on my electric guitar, everyone else would say, START ON ACOUSTIC, but I HATED acoustic guitar, at least back then. Now I have gigs, compliments all the time, can play ALMOST every song i hear, make my own songs, yadayadaya, and It%26#039;s been less than two years. The most important thing is you Practice a heck of a lot, see if you can get lessons, because I regret being self-taught, and have fun. May I also suggest you check the site ultimate-guitar.com out? Hope I helped
Reply:you don%26#039;t have to but if you start on electric its very possible this will happen: you will be playing and you will think you are playing perfect and sounding awesome. but in reality what you just played was a fast, and horrible guitar solo. that happened to someone i know and now he pretty much hates the world because someone told him that he sucked
